Peak Oil in the Real World

On C-SPAN right now, there is a Republican (Roscoe Bartlett) forecasting peak oil doom and gloom to the U.S House of Representatives!

I’m kind of amazed to see this in the mainstream world.

  1. Did you check out what your personal carbon footprint is? There are sites that allow you to calculate your damage. Yikes!

  2. Bartlett has been into PO for quite awhile. Sooner or later, he’s going to be proven correct.

I sometimes check in on a “simple living” forum where the participants are highly occupied by the idea of reducing their carbon footprints. Interestingly, a lot of them still drive as a main form of transportation. One of them told a story, intended to demonstrate her commitment to environmental stewardship, about how she forgot her cloth grocery bags during a recent shopping trip, and turned the car around for home to get them. Somebody should figure out hom many car miles are equivalent to a paper bag.
