You’re not the boss of me now!

I have spent the past eight and a half years working for a huge-ass company. I spent the four years prior to that working for an even huger-ass company.

After twelve years in “corporate america,” I have had enough. Today, I quit my job to go work for a non-profit.

For the first time in a couple of years, I have a spring in my step, a song in my heart, and the future looks like it might actually be better than the past! Yeehaw!

I dunno how feasible it will be to bicycle commute to my new gig. The new office is about 12 miles from my house, and I don’t think there are any shower facilities there.

I am now probably a good candidate for a stokemonkey, but, alas, I can no longer afford one…

  1. I work for a nonprofit, too. Congratulations on the career change. I hope you like it. If I ever switch jobs, I’m going to try to get a gig setting up explosives for demolitions. Or porn.

  2. Thanks for the encouragement.

After I’m settled in to my new surroundings, I may try some of those ideas. I don’t want them to think they hired a weirdo right off the bat.

I’ll let them figure that out gradually…after the probationary period has expired, anyway. 😉

  3. Awesome! This is the first time I have read your blog, but definitely feel compelled to extend a hearty congrats for finding that all-too-elusive spring in the step. Being under the thumb of the MAN is a numbing, grating experience, even if you get to ride to work.

(P.S. I used to have an almost 14 mile ride to work in New Orleans and I was able to keep my funk at bay through several creative means…just keep ridin’, man!!!! :))
